Business Culture Foundation Course: MAKING SENSE OF SWEDEN

The training course will give insight into Swedish business culture and provide attendees with the tools necessary to understand and excel in their Swedish workplace environment.

This half day foundation course will prepare attendees for their career in a Swedish company and enable them to discover ways of working more efficiently within the management structure. The course will cover cultural nuances in leadership and management approaches, how to safely navigate the differences in workplace behaviours, as well as exploring differences in negotiation practices, sales techniques and communications. Attendees will also get an introduction to the differences within Employment, Commercial and Tax law and be given a crash course into Swedish culture and the Swedish perception of the UK.

This course is for British or International professionals who have recently taken on (or are about to take on) a position in a Swedish company here in the UK, and/or for those further on in their career who want to improve their interaction with head office in Sweden.

SESSION 1: THE CULTURAL 8:35-8:55

How do Swedes view the English? Benjamin Webb, Tania Tandon and Elisabet Vinberg Hern give examples of typical perceptions of the respective cultures, business history, language and translation.

SESSION 2: LEADERSHIP 9:00-9:45
Speaker: Elisabeth Vinberg Hearn, Katapult Partners
How to manage as a Swede in a UK team and how to work with Swedish management teams. Elisabeth Vinberg Hearn, CEO of Katapult Partners, leads this interactive workshop including topics like management approaches and leadership styles, workplace behaviours and how to create a winning team of individuals.

SESSION 3: SALES AND THE CUSTOMER 9:45-10:30
Speaker: Robert Gladh, Katapult Partners
An interactive workshop on negotiation skills, including influencing differences, effective negotiation across cultures, marketplace and opportunity, networking, as well as key stake holder differences.

SESSION 4: LEGAL 11:00-11:45
Speakers: Tania Tandon, Richard Hildebrand, TandonHildebrand, Helena Whitmore, SEB
An introduction to Swedish employment Law and understanding the framework of what employers in Sweden can expect from employees, what employers can ask employees to do, and employees’ rights at work. The session also covers contracts and basic commercial law: being aware of and understand the risks in entering into contracts.

SESSION 5: COMMUNICATIONS 11:45-12:30
