Introducing the new Membership Manager of the SCC, Sofia Ed Larsen

Welcome to the Chamber! Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Thank you! I’ve lived, worked and studied in both Denmark, Sweden and the UK - spending the last two years in Cambridge, where I’ve spent a lot of my spare time rowing on the river Cam. I still haven’t decided if I will dare to take on the wider waters of the Thames when I move to London. I’m very excited to get to live full-time in London, which is a city I have always loved and visited frequently.

What is your background?
After a few years of studying science and engineering, I did my Bachelor’s degree in History of Art at Stockholm University, and spent my university years in numerous part-time and volunteering roles within the culture sector. After doing the two-year Master’s program General Management at Stockholm School of Economics, I went on to work in the spirits industry, where I stayed for four years. First for Pernod Ricard in the Absolut Vodka marketing team in Stockholm, and more recently for a small gin brand in Cambridge. In other words, I have experience from both small and large companies as well as non-profit organisations, and with everything from event and brand management to tour guiding and teaching.

How did you end up at the Chamber?
I was not actively looking for a new role, but when the opportunity at the SCC showed up I knew I just had to apply. Ever since I learned about the work of foreign chambers such as the SCC many years ago, I’ve had a profound respect for their work and always saw it as a potential future place of work. During my process of getting to know the SCC, I continuously built a stronger sense that it would be the perfect fit for my personality, values and experience.

Why did you want to work with the Membership Department at the Chamber?
I am an extremely curious person, who loves to learn new things about more or less anything, so I find the idea of getting to work with so many different companies and industries really exciting. I’m also excited about getting to utilise my versatile background and passion for both Sweden and the UK to support the Anglo-Swedish business community.

What are you looking forward to the most?
First of all, I can’t wait to get to know our Members! I’m really looking forward to continuing finding new ways of supporting and helping create value for all Members - small and large, and within all sectors. I’ve also heard rumours of this SCC Christmas Luncheon coming up, so that and all the other exciting events of the season is certainly on my list of things I look forward to as well.

Any short message to the SCC Members?
The shortest one would be: I will see you soon
