For the 9th year in a row, H&M has collaborated with a world renowned designer creating a collection that combines the exclusivity of a high-end brand with the accessibility of H&M. This year, the collaboration is with the one and only Olivier Rousteing, creative director at the Parisian fashion house Balmain. The previews of the collection looks fabulous. And we want to bring YOU to see it first!
“This is for the new H&M Balmain Nation, a complete collection that can be worn by different women on different continents, all part of the same world. I wanted to stay true to the DNA of Balmain, richly detailed, powerful and yet effortless”, commented Rousteing when describing the collection.
The exclusive H&M x Balmain collection is military inspired and rich in detail and craftsmanship. It captures the essence of Balmain as well as the signature of Olivier Rousteing, both of which has made the luxury brand one of the most important of the 21st century. Many of the pieces are made with luxurious satin and come embellished with the signature pearl, rope and gold stitching embroidery. The touch of Balmain is especially visible in the collection’s accessories, including for example the ‘Balmain essential’ high-waist belts.
The haute couture fashion house of Balmain was founded by Pierre Balmain in 1946. Since then his designs have been worn my women of prestige, from royalty to women of the theatre and the ballet. Pierre Balmain was successful during his lifetime and was regarded “king of French fashion” in the period following World War II. Since his death Balmain has been succeeded by various famous designers, amongst them Erik Mortensen, Oskar de la Renta and Christophe Decarnin.
Olivier Rusteing was announced to replace Christophe Decarnin as creative designer of Balmain in 2011. His work has since then made the haute couture brand grow significantly, both in revenue as well as in popularity amongst the fashion darlings of the world.
The HM x Balmain collection was first announced at the Billboard Music Awards in May 2015 and there has since then been a never ending buzz on social media all over the world. The attention the announcement received was in no way lessened by the fact that Mr Rousteing attended the gala in company of his #BalmainArmy, top models Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn.
The exclusive launch party of the collection took place on 20 October 2015 at Wall Street in New York City, in form of a dance party with a spectacular fashion show as well as performance from the Backstreet Boys.
To celebrate the H&M x Balmain collaboration, The Swedish Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce that a select number of our SCC Members will get a chance to see the collection at an evening event at the Regent Street store on 4 November, before the collection is available to the public here in the UK. “H&M are really pleased to offer tickets to some of the SCC Members for this exciting event. At the event they will get the chance to shop the collection before it goes on sale the following day, so exciting for all fashion lovers”, H&M's Chloe Bowers tells the SCC.
The collection will be available for everyone in selected H&M stores worldwide, as well as online at hm.com, from Thursday 5th November 2015, and will feature clothing and accessories for both women and men.
