The Sten A. Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture

Through generous donations by the Sten A. Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture, young talents from the School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg are offered the opportunity to gain international experience through joining the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in London for a 12 month period. The scholarship was established in 2017 and has since then helped its alumni in taking the first steps in their international careers.

About the foundation

The Sten A Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture was founded in 1996 in honour of shipowner Sten A Olsson on his 80th birthday. At the time, Mr. Olsson had been active for more than half a century in the Gothenburg and Western Sweden area, laying the foundation to what today is the Stena Sphere, one of Sweden’s largest family owned businesses, including businesses such as Stena Line.

The Sten A Olsson family has always had a great interest and will to support creative individuals as they strive to fulfill their goals. Through the Sten A Olsson foundation for Research and Culture, the family aims to target support and contributions to research and cultural activities mainly in the greater Gothenburg area and western parts of Sweden.

The most rewarding professional experience

“Working one year with helping Swedish businesses to establish, grow and develop in the UK has without a doubt been the most rewarding professional experience of my life. I have been working with Business Services, which is targeted towards Swedish early stage businesses looking to enter the UK for the first time. This has provided me with valuable insight about what a company needs when entering a new market, and the challenges they face and how to overcome them.”

Madeleine Hjalber, The Sten A. Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture Scholar 19/20
