A Charitable Christmas

With all the fairy lights up, trees here, there and everywhere and the SCC Christmas Luncheon over, there is really only one thing we can look forward to: Christmas itself. We may tell ourselves that we no longer care about the wrapped boxes underneath the Christmas tree (and we may or may not be lying) but few can deny that a holiday that consists of family, friends and food is a holiday to cherish.

Sadly this holiday does not mean this for everyone and for people without a safe haven and food on the table there is little to look forward to. Thankfully Christmas is also a time of giving, and sharing with those who have less than us. A particularly special event capturing the Christmas spirit is the Christmas fair at Kungsträdgården in Stockholm, organised on 17 December by Stockholms Stadsmission (Stockholm City Mission) for the third year in a row.

The event features celebrity chefs cooking traditional Swedish Christmas food, available to everyone. People who can pay a small amount for their food and people who cannot eat for free. Famous Swedish musicians will perform without compensation and all profit goes directly to helping the homeless of Stockholm.

This is an event that not only provides an opportunity to help, but also contributes to making Christmas as magical as it should be.

For those of you who may not be able to attend this Swedish event there are several opportunities to help closer to home, one of them being provided by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce as our annual Christmas Luncheon this year will feature a charity raffle, the profit directed at helping Londoners in need.
